Subaru Is Set to Unveil a New 420-HP Electric SUV at the New York Auto Show

In what feels like the blink of an eye, Subaru has gone from having no EVs at all to building out a growing electric lineup. The next addition will make its global debut at next week's New York auto show, and today we're getting our first look via a teaser image of the upcoming electric SUV.

The image depicts a partially obscured vehicle navigating a coastal road at either dawn or dusk. Fine detail is sparse, but a few things are identifiable. The new Subaru electric model will sport the same six-element daytime running light clusters that appear on every other Subaru EV — the Uncharted, Solterra, and Trailseeker. An illuminated front badge and roof rails are also visible.

Along with the teaser image, Subaru released some powertrain details to build anticipation. The new SUV will come with all-wheel drive as standard, which indicates at least two electric motors. Combined output is rated at 420 horsepower — enough to make it the most powerful production Subaru available at any dealership. There's also a telling clue in Subaru's short press release: the word "family" appears twice, suggesting the vehicle may accommodate more than five occupants and could be Subaru's first three-row EV.

The full reveal — including the model's official name — is scheduled for 10 a.m. ET on Wednesday, April 1, at the 2026 New York International Auto Show.
